Every week for more than 30 years, Bon Truong played the same lottery numbers. And for 305 days, the Edmonton landscaper sat on a $60-million secret.

Truong, who came to Canada from Vietnam in the 1970s, came forward on Wednesday as the sole winner of the Oct. 26, 2018, Lotto Max draw.

At a celebration Wednesday at the St. Albert Western Canada Lottery Corp. offices, he accepted a giant cheque for $60 million.

Actually, the cheque was for $60,000,002, because Truong also won a cool $2 on the same night’s Extra draw.

He bought his ticket at the Pure Casino Yellowhead om Edmonton and describes his nervousness when he learned how he had won “the big one” the day after the draw.

“On my phone, I saw my number coming on. After that I keep quiet, a couple of minutes. My body calm down. I check again. I have the big win!” Truong said, a huge smile on his face.

Over the coming months — 10, to be exact — he did a lot of thinking, Truong told the news conference. He told his wife right away that he’d won the lottery but left out the detail that it was the big jackpot.

Truong has three children and he said they also haven’t been told that daddy is a multi-millionaire.

Laughing, Truong said he is not in a hurry to do that.

“I don’t want to let them know. I don’t want to tell them nothing,” he said. “Right now , I keep quiet.”

Truong plans to pay off his mortgage and take his family on a holiday.

“I’m not sure where just yet,” he said in a news release. “I think we’ll try to go everywhere.”

The winning ticket for the big draw had winning numbers were 2, 3, 4, 8, 9, 20 and 30. The bonus number was 45.
